2 dead after three-vehicle crash north of Detroit Lakes on Highway 59 – Detroit Lakes Tribune

DETROIT LAKES – Two people were killed in a three-vehicle crash on State Highway 59 at milepost 269 north of Detroit Lakes Tuesday afternoon, according to a Minnesota State Patrol accident report.

The deceased are a 33-year-old man from Detroit Lakes and a 60-year-old man from Hawley, Minnesota. The Detroit Lakes man was the driver of a 1996 Toyota Corolla and the Hawley man was the passenger of the vehicle. According to the report, the accident involved an occupant who was not wearing a seatbelt.

The names will be released on Wednesday afternoon, October 9th.
The other vehicles involved in the accident were a 2003 Ford Econoline driven by Evette Elana Fox, 59, of Bagley, Minnesota, and a 2015 Chrysler Town and Country driven by Marvin Leroy St. Germain, 84, of Fosston, Minnesota, Marie Annette, was driving St. Germain, 82, of Fosston, was a passenger in the Chrysler.

Fox was uninjured and the St. Germains were both taken to the emergency room with non-life-threatening injuries. All three were wearing seatbelts.

The accident occurred on dry pavement and airbags were deployed in the Chrysler and Toyota. The Toyota and Ford were traveling north on Highway 59 while the Chrysler was traveling south, police said. However, the sequence of events that led to the crash is still under investigation.
