Texas deputy killed in accident while responding to accident

DECATUR, Texas – A Texas lawmaker who died in an accident is remembered.

The Wise County Sheriff’s Office said 26-year-old Deputy Lex Allen Love responded to a car accident on Oct. 2. The scene of the accident was on County Road 4421, east of US 287.

According to authorities, Love collided with a concrete barrier at a construction site. Surrounding officers responded to him but said Love was unresponsive despite life-saving measures.

Love was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries later that night.

According to a Facebook post from the sheriff’s office, Love was described as “an incredibly friendly young deputy.”

He started at the sheriff’s office as a jailer before attending a police academy in Decatur. In April 2024 he became a member of the district.

“Lex is one of the finest police officers to ever wear the DPD and WCSO badges,” the Facebook post said. “Lex leaves behind a beautiful and loving young family.”
