My favorite NTS property has a tragic history

bJackie Bird was born in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire and was both a pop editor at Jackie magazine and a newsreader at BBC Scotland Reporting on Scotland. She is President of the National Trust for Scotland (NTS).

What was your first family holiday to Scotland?
A “day here and there,” as people who were too poor to actually go on vacation said. Girvan, Saltcoats, Ayr – the west coast. It’s amazing that I can now drive to these destinations and be back before lunchtime. Back then it was as if we were traveling to the end of the world.

What was your most memorable performance in Scotland?
Paul McCartney, Hampden Park, 2010. I sang every line of every song at the top of my lungs.
