bJackie Bird was born in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire and was both a pop editor at Jackie magazine and a newsreader at BBC Scotland Reporting on Scotland. She is President of the National Trust for Scotland (NTS).

What was your first family holiday to Scotland?
A “day here and there,” as people who were too poor to actually go on vacation said. Girvan, Saltcoats, Ayr – the west coast. It’s amazing that I can now drive to these destinations and be back before lunchtime. Back then it was as if we were traveling to the end of the world.
