A Maple Heights student has been charged after stabbing another student with a box cutter

MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio (WOIO) – A Maple Heights High School student is facing assault charges after using a box cutter in a fight against a student on Tuesday.

According to police, a disagreement occurred in class on Tuesday between two students who have recently been involved in fights.

“Prior to the physical altercation, the two students involved exchanged words in the classroom, the two confronted each other and began fighting each other,” Maple Heights police wrote in a news release.

During a break in the argument, one of the students pulled a box cutter out of his book bag before physically fighting the other student again, according to police.

According to police, the student used the box cutter to cut the other student’s forehead and stomach.

School security and police officers arrested both parties, officials say, and the student injured by the box cutter was treated by Maple Heights Fire Department personnel and taken to Metro Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to police, the student who was injured by the box cutter injured his hand and was taken to Marymount Hospital for treatment of superficial injuries.

The student with the box cutter was taken to the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center, officials confirmed, and is being held on aggravated assault charges.
