Tragic suicide of a diamond artisan due to financial problems | Surat News

Sure: A 40-year-old Diamond Artist supposedly died suicide in his house in the Varachha area late Monday evening, reportedly due to an acute illness Financial crisis.
The artisan Ramnagina Singh was employed by the diamond cutting company Asian star for eight years. He was found hanging in his room.
The company’s workers had recently gone on strike after management announced a 15% pay cut after Diwali and refused to pay the annual festival bonus.
Varachha police have registered an accidental death case and launched an investigation.
Investigating inspector Alpesh Gabani told TOI, “We found out that he took the extreme step due to his financial situation and the recent strike in the company where he was employed. He was also concerned about the marriages of his two daughters.”
Speaking to TOI, Singh’s son Roshan said, “My father was deeply disturbed by the financial crisis in the last few days. We are four siblings, including my two sisters, aged 20 and 22, and my older brother, 24. As work at the diamond company had decreased in recent months, his income had halved.”
“He constantly expressed concern about how he would make ends meet and arrange my sisters’ marriages. We always assured him that there was nothing to worry about and told him that things would get better,” Roshan added.
After Singh’s untimely death, the family members are now demanding compensation.
Vipul Shah, promoter of Asian Star, said, “We are waiting for the detailed report to determine whether it was a natural or unnatural death. However, we stand by our workers’ families.”
Bhavesh Tank, vice-president, Diamond Workers’ Union, Gujarat, said, “Singh had also spoken to the media during the recent strike. He was under constant stress due to the financial crisis. Many tradesmen find themselves in a similar situation. Diamond.” Owners and the government should take this seriously.
