It’s the end of an era. Back in September, Hoda Kotb announced that she was leaving her iconic co-host slot Today show after 17 years. In an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy FallonKotb, 60, revealed she had an epiphany during her milestone birthday that inspired her to take the plunge.

During the conversation with Fallon, which originally aired on Monday, October 7, Kotb described her recent birthday party, which took place at 30 Rock Studios.

“When I turned 60, something strange happened, man,” she said. “I turned 60 and we had this beautiful party at Today Show, and I looked out at the sea of ​​all the people coming and beautiful signs and so many good wishes, and I knew in my heart, “This is it, man.” “This must be what the mountain top feels like.” This I had never had that feeling before.

Kotb described the feeling as similar to that of a plant being transplanted into a new environment.

“You know, when you’re pulling yourself up by the roots and you’re kind of dangling and you’re like, ‘Oh my God, what am I doing? What’s going on?'” she said. “But you know you’ll land on fertile ground.”

During her time on TodayKotb was known for her relaxed interview style and wine-fueled conversations with colleagues Today Co-host Kathie Lee Gifford – who left Today in 2019.

At the time of writing, no date for Kotb’s final show has been announced. However, when making her announcement, she shared that she would be working until early 2025. She also said she plans to work with NBC in another capacity.

“Happy and grateful, I plan to remain a part of the NBC family, the longest working relationship I have ever held close to my heart,” Kotb said. “I’ll be there. How could I not? Family is family and you will always be a part of me.”
