Police say one person has died during a youth football game in Colorado

A shooting during a Pop Warner football game in a school parking lot in Colorado left one person dead.

According to multiple reports, a fight broke out during a youth football game near Atlas Preparatory School in Colorado Springs around 2:30 p.m. local time on Saturday.

The fight apparently escalated and ended fatally.

Youth games were scheduled on the field from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m Denver Gazette reported, citing the Pikes Peak Pop Warner Youth Football and Cheer website.

According to reports, the victim was only a 29-year-old man.

The school’s executive director, Brittney Stroh, wrote in a Facebook post that the school’s fields and facilities were being rented out by “outside groups” over the weekend, confirming that an incident occurred on its grounds.

“Today, during one of these games organized by an outside group, a fight broke out in which one person died. While this took place on Atlas’ premises, neither Atlas nor any of his students were involved or affected. Our condolences reach out to the family and friends affected by this tragedy.

“The Colorado Springs Police Department is handling this incident. This is an ongoing investigation. We will update here when we have more information about our Atlas families.”

The Pop Warner League said the incident had “nothing to do with our teams.”

“[The incident] These were two individuals with past personal issues who do not have children in our league and are not involved in coaching or volunteer roles,” the league said in a statement via KOAA in Colorado. “The safety of our athletes and their families is our top priority and we are taking additional measures to ensure their safety in the future. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims during this difficult time.”

The shooting happened at Atlas Preparatory School in Colorado Springs.

No suspect is in custody, Colorado Springs police said in a statement to Fox News Digital.
