Poor lighting and jaywalking in fatal car crash in northeast El Paso

Poor lighting and failure to use a crosswalk reportedly led to the death of a woman struck by a car in northeast El Paso Monday night.

Lori Jean, a 67-year-old Kenyan, died after she was hit by a car at the intersection of McCombs and Regulus in northeast El Paso on Monday, El Paso police said.

According to an initial investigation by EPPD’s Special Traffic Investigations Unit, the Kenyan woman was crossing the street near McCombs and Regulus shortly before 7:30 p.m. when she was struck by a vehicle.

EPPD said the Kenyan was not in a designated crosswalk, adding that “poor lighting may have contributed to the crash.”

This is reportedly the fifty-first traffic fatality of 2024, compared to 56 at this time last year.
