The long wait for Red Dead Redemption on PC is almost over

It feels a little like Rockstar Games is receiving a long-lost letter from the Pony Express, and it has good news for PC gamers: the original Red Dead Redemption will release on October 29th. It will arrive 14 years after its original debut on gaming consoles, with visual improvements such as 4K resolution graphics and a bonus single-player Undead Nightmare zombie campaign.

Rockstar released the sequel to Red Dead, Red Dead Redemption 2, on PC back in 2019. It arrived with some technical issues, but it persisted and was made available on Steam late last year.

However, this is the first time PC gamers will be able to play the original game, which tells the story of John Marston, a former outlaw trying to find his kidnapped wife and son. This version of the game, which includes the zombie campaign, is currently available for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox.

In its post about the game, Rockstar says the game will feature HDR10 support and native 4K resolution at up to 144Hz, as well as support for ultrawide (21:9) and super ultrawide (32:9) monitors. No pricing information about the game has been announced; Rockstar announces that it will offer pre-order information for the Rockstar Store, Steam and the Epic Game Store later this week.

Both open-world western games in the franchise are highly regarded, with the first Red Dead receiving almost universally positive reviews. According to the Steam page, this version will also include bonus material from the Game of the Year edition, but no multiplayer options.
