Nottingham Forest receive a new injury update for Morgan Gibbs-White after Chelsea scare

Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White has been withdrawn from the England squad due to injury.

The 24-year-old was called up by interim manager Lee Carsley for this month’s Three Lions’ Nations League games against Greece and Finland. However, a late fitness test means he will play no role and will instead remain at Forest during the international break.

The FA has confirmed his resignation along with Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa and Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, confirming the decision not to call up replacement players. Gibbs-White was sent off in the 76th minute of Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea – just a day before he was due to make his second appearance for the national team.

After that game at Stamford Bridge, the midfielder remained silent on his social channels as fans waited to find out the extent of the damage he had suffered. Forest have already been without midfielders Danilo and Ibrahim Sangare in the first few weeks of the new season.

“He is being examined and tomorrow he will have a scan to see if he can be included in the England squad. I hope for the best,” said head coach Nuno Espirito Santo after the Chelsea game.

Gibbs-White, winner of the Under-17 World Cup and Under-21 European Championship, received his first international call-up last month as England began their recent Nations League season. He made his senior debut as a second-half substitute in a 2-0 win over the Republic of Ireland at the Aviva Stadium.

Harry Kane is expected to feature for the Three Lions after an injury scare. The England captain was sent off after a collision during FC Bayern Munich’s 3-3 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt.
