Reports come from the upper bay, sea wall and jetties | Role report

captain Mike Cacciotti sought the limits of upper Galveston Bay to escape the strong northeasterly winds. He fished with two different groups of anglers on both Saturday and Sunday, throwing live shrimp under popping corks. There were good numbers of redfish both days, as well as a few brown trout, sheepshead trout and black drum trout.

Down on the Texas City Dike, most anglers fish the canal side because of the northeast wind. Those who fish near the base catch flounder, usually by wading directly from the rocks. Further down the levee and fishing away from the rocks, anglers are catching drum trout, sheepshead trout, sand trout, gafftops and some bull reds. Live shrimp and mullet were the best baits.

The Galveston jetties were really good for catching redfish. Conditions aren’t the best as far as rough water goes, but the fish are still biting. Last weekend, Capt. Derrick Greene Not only did he recommend Bull Reds to his customers, but he also played guardian angel to a few people who found themselves in a bad situation.

First, he rescued a boatload of anglers whose boat was taking on water at the docks. He pulled her into his boat when her boat was completely submerged. Then, on his way back to the Galveston Yacht Basin after going fishing again, he came across two people and their upturned jet ski. Greene righted her jet ski and made sure it was running before continuing to the dock.

Tyler Hatfield The UpScale anglers also battled the rough waters of the jetties and used their group to catch bull reds and black drum on Sunday and Monday.

Folks, this time of year the bay system can be unforgiving with the northeast winds. If you are not an experienced boater, I recommend fishing in the most sheltered waters you can find. While there are plenty of fish to catch on the jetties, the water out there can be rough and dangerous. It is not a place for an inexperienced boater/angler.
