Work begins on the memorial site where the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus accident occurred

One of the members of the Humboldt Broncos Memorials Committee, Carol Brons, the mother of Dayna Brons, who died in the 2018 bus tragedy, says she is thrilled to finally have shovels in the ground for a permanent memorial at the accident site at the intersection of Highways 35 and 335.

A press release from the City of Humboldt and the Memorial Committee stated that preparations for the site began today (Monday) following the groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday. In the first phase, paths and a seating area will be created over the next few weeks. Phase 2 will see the construction of a memorial honoring the 16 people who died and the 13 people whose lives were forever changed. The site is 170 kilometers northeast of Humboldt near Tisdale.

Committee members Carol Brons, Kurt Leicht, Ed Tobin and Bernie Boulet worked diligently with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways & Infrastructure, the Water Security Agency, RM of Connaught, CN Rail and SaskPower to ensure the draft was respectful and meaningful to everyone Meet safety requirements.
