Kiel Fire & Rescue responds to garage fire and subsequent accident requiring ThedaStar

KIEL (WLUK) – First responders in Kiel were called to a garage fire and an accident with serious injuries within two hours on Monday.

Shortly before 5 p.m., the Kiel Fire Department and Rescue Service were dispatched to 623 2nd Street to report a single-family home fire with smoke and flames. When the emergency services arrived, they immediately laid hose lines and began a fire attack from the outside, which penetrated into the interior of the garage.

The fire was under control after about two minutes. Although firefighters remained on scene to investigate the origin of the fire, the cause is currently unknown. No residents or emergency services were injured. There is currently no damage estimate available.

Less than two hours later, shortly after 6:30 p.m., crews were at the fire station clearing away equipment used to respond to the fire when they were called to a crash between a motorcycle and a truck at the intersection of 6th and Paine Streets became.

Based on their initial assessment, first responders determined that a medical helicopter was required. The Kiel fire department set up a landing zone and patient care was transferred to ThedaStar for higher medical care. Officials say the patient’s condition is unknown at this time.
