Father and son explore the Las Vegas Strip for a place to watch the Tropicana implosion

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – While you can watch the implosion of the Tropicana live on FOX5, some people are planning to watch it in person, even though there are no public viewing areas.

FOX5 followed a father and son from the valley as they scouted out a good spot to watch.

It was a special occasion to pick up 14-year-old Jaxson Lewton from school after his first period and for Jaxson to wear his special Vegas shirt.

“Chances are, I’ll wear the exact same outfit to every event I attend in Las Vegas,” Jaxson says. “I think it’s a great fit for the city.”

Jaxson and his family spent hours exploring open parking garages, public places to park and set up chairs, and even hotel rooms.

But Jaxson’s father, Brad Lewton, says he hopes to be outside watching. He wants to feel the vibrations of the implosion.

This is a tradition that Brad has ingrained in his son for years. In his 14 years, Jaxson has experienced three implosions in the Las Vegas Valley.

“I think having your kid get up at midnight to watch a building blow up when they’re young is kind of a thing,” Brad said with a laugh.

For the Lewtons, the Tropicana is not just any building. Jaxson’s great-grandfather, grandfather and father were all involved in the building’s construction in some way.

Jaxson tells me it will be hard to get through, but that he wouldn’t miss it for the world.

“If I missed it, it’s like I’m not really honoring the people who have a story like that,” Jaxson says.

As for where they will watch, the family says they have a tentative location but are keeping those details secret.

Wherever you decide to go, it is recommended to arrive early as it will be very crowded.
