The Detroit Tigers thought they had scored their first run in the eighth inning of Game 2 of their ALDS with the Cleveland Guardians. But a diving catch by left fielder Steven Kwan kept the Tigers off the field.

Detroit had runners on first and second base with two outs after a double by Matt Vierling and an intentional walk against Riley Greene. Guardians manager Stephen Vogt brought in Emmanuel Clase to relieve Hunter Gaddis. It looked like Clase had delivered a hit to Wenceel PĂ©rez on a sinking liner and the game’s first run would score.

Then Kwan rushed in.

The game was ruled out on the field. The referees quickly checked the play to see if the ball touched the grass before landing in Kwan’s glove.

From the front angle filmed by TBS cameras, it appeared that the ball may actually have bounced off the turf. However, another side angle showed the ball bouncing off the edge of Kwan’s glove before landing in the pocket.

The call was granted and the Tigers missed perhaps their best chance to score in a 0-0 game.
