Child injured in accident at Dennistown Plantation

Dennistown Plantation, Maine (WABI) – Police say a young boy was injured in a crash in Dennistown Plantation when his grandfather, who appeared to be drunk, drove off the road Saturday night.

According to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office, 74-year-old William Watkin of Long Pond Township veered off the road and struck a bridge on Holeb Road shortly before 7:30 p.m.

Watkin was not injured.

His 11-year-old grandson was in the back seat.

He sustained facial injuries in the accident.

They say another driver took him to Jackman Health Center and then he was taken by LifeFlight to a Bangor hospital for a possible head injury.

His current status is unknown.

The cause is also unknown, but alcohol is suspected to have played a role.
