Hundreds gather at Pomona College in Claremont on the anniversary of the Oct. 7 attack

CLAREMONT, Calif. (KABC) — Hundreds of people gathered for a rally on the Pomona College campus in Claremont on Monday, a year after the deadly Oct. 7 attack that sparked the war between Israel and Hamas.

Some students walked out of class shortly after 10 a.m. to call on the university to withdraw funds from Israel.

The rally was said to have been largely peaceful. AIR7 was over the scene as the group blocked a street on the west side of campus, but there was little police presence.

At one point, the pro-Palestinian protesters entered a building and disrupted at least one class, reportedly causing some students to climb out of windows.

No violence was reported.

Earlier this year, pro-Palestinian protesters set up camp on Pomona College’s graduation stage. The group vowed to remain in office unless the college committed to divesting itself from Israel-linked companies and weapons manufacturers. This forced the college to postpone the commencement ceremony.

Pomona College graduates will have to travel more than 30 miles for their graduation ceremony as the administration tries to avoid setting up a pro-Palestinian camp at the school’s graduation ceremony.

This came about a month after 19 students were arrested while participating in a sit-in at the university president’s office.
