Car show benefit brings crowd to Becky’s – Times News Online

The 36th Annual Lehigh Township Benefit Festival and Car Show was held Sunday at Becky’s Drive-In for the Blue Ridge chapter of Dream Come True. The event was hosted by the Lehigh Township Lions Club.

Proceeds help seriously, chronically and terminally ill children realize their dreams, such as going to Disney World or seeing their favorite star or actor.

The day-long event featured a flea market, crafts, food, entertainment, children’s games, a tricky tray, hayrides and a basket dinner. Attractions included Emerald Dragon Karate, which provided demonstrations to the public; Balloons from Robin; and Brad Clark as “Elvis,” singing in and around the cars.

Among the vendors was Boy Scout Troop No. 62 at St. Nicholas Church in Berlinville. They sold warm apple and peach cobbler with ice cream. This was the second year they sold cobblers.

416 new and old cars as well as two motorcycles were on display at the auto show. One of the vintage cars was brought by Frank Dinatally of Lehighton. He brought his 1965 Plymouth Barracuda, which he converted with an original 273 high-performance Commando engine.

Bryan Peralth of Walnutport brought a late-model car, a 2016 V-6 370-Z Nissan Sport. Peralth enjoyed modernizing the car by installing a Tesla dashboard and xenon headlights.

Tammy Heckman, a former “Dream Come True” recipient, was also in attendance. As a young girl, she was one of the first to come to Disney World through the Blue Ridge Chapter. Heckman turns 50 and will be going back to Disney because the show is 50 years old.

“The crowd is just wonderful,” said Cindy Beck-Deppe, co-owner of Becky’s Drive-In. “It’s great to see all the locals who I haven’t seen in a long time. Our employees donated their time to work on this event. They even donated their $47 tip from last night into the pot. Everyone is having a great time.”
