In reality, the 65-year-old was “motivated by sexual desire through consciously touching certain areas of the body.”

He derived “sexual satisfaction” from groping his victims, making them undress unnecessarily and touching them without gloves.

Cox has now been sentenced to 22 years in prison after being convicted of 12 counts of indecent assault between 1988 and 1997.

The fiend was acquitted of a further four counts of indecent assault following a retrial.

Reading Crown Court was told Cox touched his victim’s breasts and pressed his body against them under the pretense of carrying out routine examinations.

Because the crimes occurred before the use of computerized health records, police relied on handwritten records Family doctor Notes for her Investigation.

Although none of the incidents were reported at the time, victims came forward after the investigation was opened.

Cox, now retired, claimed the women lied and it was all just a misunderstanding.

Cox practiced not only in Reading, but also in BurtonWolverhampton, Derby, Measham in Leicestershire, Wokingham, Ouse Valley in West Sussex and Telford.

Thames Valley Police had previously expressed fears that Cox may have targeted more victims during his time as a GP.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Sara Di Giorgio said: “These offenses occurred many years ago in the 1980s and 1990s.

“I would encourage anyone who believes they have been a victim of Cox to come forward.”

While the CPS’s Chris White added: “The medical expert we called on to give evidence during the trial confirmed that there was no medical justification for Stephen Cox’s actions.”

“His behavior was clearly sexually motivated and he used his position to take advantage of his patients when they should have trusted him.”

“As there were no witnesses to the assaults, it was the strength of all victim reports showing a similar pattern of behavior by Cox that contributed to his conviction.”

“We want to thank them for coming forward and we hope today’s verdict gives them some sense of closure.”
