Patriots captain Jabrill Peppers arrested on assault and drug charges

New England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers was arrested early Saturday morning on multiple charges, Braintree police said Monday.

Police responded to an altercation at a home that resulted in Peppers, 29, being arrested at the scene. He is expected to be charged with assault, assault with a dangerous weapon, strangulation and possession of a Class B drug, which police say was cocaine.

Peppers is expected to be arraigned in Quincy District Court on Monday.

The Patriots, who made the Peppers inactive for their Week 5 game against the Miami Dolphins, released a statement on the matter Monday morning.

“We are aware of an incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend which police are currently investigating. We will have no further comment at this time,” the statement said.

Peppers, a first-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, joined the Patriots as a free agent in 2022. Since then, he has appeared in 36 games for the organization and has registered three interceptions as a starting safety, as well as two fumble recoveries and one sack. Earlier this offseason, he signed a three-year, $25 million contract extension. He was later elected one of six first team captains.

The Patriots play the Houston Texans on Sunday at Gillette Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.
