IACT REPORTS QUIET SATURDAY EVENING OF HOMECOMING WEEKEND

The Indiana Area Collaborative Team reported that while there was an increase in the number of people on and around campus on Saturday evening of Homecoming weekend, there were no reports of large gatherings.

Indiana Borough Police said there were large crowds at the Homecoming Parade and at locations adjacent to campus along South 7Th Street and Wayne Avenue begin in the early afternoon and continue into the early evening. Officers were present along Philadelphia Street, South 7Th The Street and Wayne Avenue areas were busy, but a safe and peaceful atmosphere was reported. Indiana County Police investigations included theft, driving under the influence, medical emergencies, MVA hit-and-run, domestic incidents and driving under the influence. One person, a non-IUP student, was arrested Saturday and charged with drunken driving and a drug offense.

The state police also reported a quiet night with a large gathering of people, but no arrests were made. A serious incident was reported when police conducted a traffic stop in the South 7 area at 11:40 a.m. Saturday eveningTh Street and Gompers Avenue. During the stop, officers confiscated a handgun that was allegedly stolen in Pittsburgh. The investigation is ongoing.

IUP Police noticed a significant increase in pedestrian and vehicle traffic and conducted 23 routine maintenance calls, including nine traffic stops, two thefts, one harassment call and two blue phone activation responses.
