The Walking Dead Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol Episode 2 Summary

Editor’s Note: The following summary contains spoilers for Episode 2 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon – The Book of Carol.

Last year The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon was one of the best spin-offs of the original The walking dead Series in which we got to follow one of our favorite strays, Daryl (Norman Reedus) when he brought his talents to France. An ocean away from his friends, Daryl joined a religious group called the Union of Hope, where he befriended a boy named Laurent (Louis Puech Scigliuzzi), who was treated like the Messiah, fought against the evil Marion Genet (Anne Charrier) and fell in love with a nun named Isabelle (Clémence Poésy).

These scenarios have created quite an entertaining series, but there’s something missing from Daryl when he’s not with Carol (Melissa McBride). The book Carol promises to correct that. In the first episode, Carol searches for her best friend and then discovers that he has been kidnapped to France. With them hundreds of miles of water apart, everything feels hopeless, but then Carol meets a man named Ash (Manish Dayal). Ash is a good man who never got over his son’s death, but what he does have is a plane. Carol takes advantage of his feelings against him and tricks Ash into flying her to France. As the premiere episode comes to an end, the plane is in the air and Carol is on her way. Will Carol make it safely to France in the latest episode of “Moulin Rouge”?

Carol and Ash begin an unnecessary side quest in “Daryl Dixon” Season 2, Episode 2

Carol and Ash have to leave early after a walker outbreak occurs in Ash’s house. They arrive in the beautiful hills of Greenland to refuel as planned, but their plane is a smoking mess and needs repairs. In the distance, Carol sees some walkers covered in moss and decides to get them out. This is easy until the ones hidden in the grass crawl out and attack them. Ash begins to help, but the attack is knocked down by a shot. Carol and Ash are rescued by two women, Eun and Hannawhich is good news for Ash, but reason for Carol to be on her guard. The women haven’t seen other people in years, they confess as they take Carol and Ash to their small house by a lake.

Eun helps Ash repair the plane’s broken fuel line while Carol stays at the house with Hanna. The women were climate researchers who were only supposed to be in Greenland for a few months, but were stuck there when the world went to hell. Hanna doesn’t see this as a bad thing per se, because now the world can heal from what humanity has done to it. Alone, walking back to the plane, Ash tells Eun why they are traveling to France. Eun finds out about Ash’s son, which earns him a friendly hug, but then Eun asks if he wants more children.

In the house, Carol and Hanna have a drink together and the researcher shows her crossbow. What starts off harmlessly becomes very dangerous when Hanna points the crossbow at Carol’s chest. A nervous Hanna admits that she should kill Carol, but she doesn’t want to. So what does Eun do with Ash? She wants to keep him with her to help repopulate the world. Ash is naturally confused by the request and says no, which results in Eun pointing a gun at him.

Unfortunately for Hanna, Carol has been in this situation far too many times, so she begins to manipulate her captor, lovingly telling Hanna that she could leave Eun and come with them. Hanna may be open to it, but she doesn’t think Eun would let her. When Eun returns to the house, she wants to know why Carol isn’t dead yet. When Hanna can’t do her part, Eun tries to kill Carol herself, but Hanna shoots her with a bolt right in the forehead. Carol agrees to take Hanna along anyway, but she doesn’t seem so sure about the idea. The sun has now set, the two walk back to the plane, but before they get there, Ash shoots Hanna in the throat with a flare gunand killed her in the most painful way. Ash thought the woman was going to kill Carol, and she certainly won’t tell her new boyfriend that he killed someone who didn’t need to die. This is a wise decision as we learn that this is the first person he ever killed.

Ash and Carol get back on the plane and continue their journey to France. When Carol next wakes up, they are a hundred miles inland over the land she was looking for. After they land at an old race track and hide the plane, Carol tells Ash that she will travel without him. He refuses this request and says he wants to help find her daughter, but Carol doesn’t want that. She doesn’t want Ash to get hurt and she wants to be alone. We know that she can’t take Ash with her out of guilt and because he can’t figure out that a search for Sophia is actually a search for Daryl. They agree that Ash will stay on the plane and Carol will return within two weeks.

Alone again, Carol marches into an empty and dilapidated city, which turns out to be a destroyed Pariswith a half-destroyed Eiffel Tower in the background. The emptiness quickly disappears as Carol has to hide as a military truck carrying food approaches. All she can do is watch as a man beats a homeless man and puts him in the truck. Thinking this could lead to Daryl, Carol cuts a hole in a bag of grain to leave a trail for her to follow as the truck drives away. The trail ends at a town square where residents gather to collect food provided by the military. We learn that these military figures work for Marion Genet. A spokeswoman offers more food and housing for any civilian who wants to work for and support Genet. Almost everyone raises their hand to volunteer, but only twenty can be taken, causing people to rush to get a lift.

Carol is caught looking through one of the trucks and because of her bravery she is chosen for kidnapping. On the truck she meets a man named Remy, who has been separated from his husband Julien. Remy tells Carol about Genet and how she is trying to create a new France. Remy is hopeful, but our Carol knows she’s suspicious and on guard. Her concern is revealed when the two trucks carrying citizens separate at the gates of Genet’s estate. At the end of the episode, Genet is seen torturing a man. It’s Stephane Codron (Romain Levi), a soldier who went to war against Daryl in the first season of Daryl Dixon. He is cut and covered in blood, but he refuses to talk. Genet wants to know where Isabelle, Laurent and Daryl arebut although he may shout, he does not speak. Carol is already much closer to Daryl than she knows.
