Uttar Pradesh: Accident averted as train driver discovers pile of dirt on tracks in Raebareli, probe launched

A serious train accident was averted after engine drivers of a passenger train discovered a pile of sand on the railway track in Raebareli district of Uttar Pradesh.

According to the police, the incident took place on the night of Sunday to Monday (October 6-7) near Raghuraj Singh railway station in Raebareli.

After an alarm from the train drivers, the earth was removed from the track and rail traffic on the route resumed.

Commenting on the incident, a Raebareli police official said, “A small pile of earth was thrown on the railway tracks, due to which a shuttle train from Raibareli was stopped.”

Locals reported that road construction work was underway in the area with dump trucks being used to transport earth at night. On Sunday evening, a dump truck driver carrying sand dumped the load onto the railway tracks and fled, police officer Devendra Bhadoria said.

Further investigation into the matter is underway, he added.

Earlier in September this year, a serious train accident was averted early after an LPG bottle was found on the railway tracks near Perambur railway station in Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The cylinder was discovered in front of a freight train, prompting the train driver to apply the brakes just in time.

In another incident, on September 8th, the The Kalindi Express, which was traveling from Prayagraj to Bhiwani, hit an LPG cylinder placed on the tracks in Kanpur.

The train’s locomotive driver discovered the LPG bottle and other suspicious objects on the tracks and then applied the brakes. However, the train failed to stop in time and ended up hitting the cylinder before coming to a stop.
