COMMENT | Launching the Malaysian Action Plan to Prevent and Counter Violent Extremism (MyPCVE), Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed concern over the deteriorating racial and religious discourse in the country.

He said: “Who would have thought that when we gained independence in 1957, everyone was accepted: Malaysians, Chinese, Indians and then in 1963 along with Sabah and Sarawak and then the May 13 event happened (1969).

“We know that racist debates and unrest caused by political statements have now reached very intense and dangerous levels in recent years, particularly around elections.”
