Police responded to the “serious accident” around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, state police said in a statement.

Two road workers were “seriously injured” in a crash on 1-90 in Boston Saturday morning, authorities said.

Massachusetts State Police said 32-year-old Pedro Campos was allegedly driving drunk when he drove his Nissan Pathfinder into a work zone and struck two workers on the Beacon Street overpass.

Police responded to the “serious accident” around 2:30 a.m. Saturday, state police said in a statement. The left lane of I-90 was open to cars, while the middle and right lanes were closed due to construction, police said. When first responders arrived at the scene, they said they found Campos’ car in the work area that had crashed into an elevated elevator containing two workers.

Boston EMS took the two workers to local hospitals while MSP closed all westbound lanes, police said. Authorities cleared the scene around 4 a.m., according to the statement

MSP arrested Campos, of Wellesley Hills, for driving while intoxicated and reckless driving, the statement said. Police said he would be arraigned in Brighton District Court on Monday.
