Tragic death of an Almora soldier in J&K: Investigation underway | Dehradun News

Almora: A 23-year-old Indian Army soldier AlmoraIn the Dwarahat area, he died under so-called “mysterious circumstances” in the Mendhar area Poonch District, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K). Manish Bishtwho belonged to the 18th Kumaon Regiment, was stationed at Behror Post in Balakote sector when he was fatally shot. On suspicion that he had shot himself, the Army informed his family about the incident on Saturday and the J&K Police has launched an investigation into the matter.
Bisht had recently returned to duty after a short leave of absence. Speaking to TOI, his cousin Sunder said that he seemed to be “upset with his family for some time now”, although he did not reveal any further details. “Manish had joined the Kumaon Regiment during the Covid-19 pandemic and has served with distinction since then,” he added.
Manish was just three years old when his father, Puran Bisht, a former State Bank of India (SBI) employee, died due to ill health. His mother Hema Devi then took up a job at the SBI branch in Ranikhet to support the family. He was the youngest of three siblings, with an older sister who is married and a brother who works in a hotel in Delhi. Bisht’s mortal remains arrived at his native Ranikhet Kahaniya on Sunday evening and his last rites are scheduled for Monday. Yogesh Nagarkoti
