Breach of Kosi Dam, a criminal negligence of the Nitish government: Bhattacharya

Darbhanga, October 6 (UNI) CPI(ML) National General Secretary Deepankar Bhattacharya on Sunday alleged that the breach of Kosi dam in Darbhanga was the result of criminal negligence on the part of the Nitish Kumar government as it failed to respond to the alarm call of the locals .

Bhattacharya, along with senior party leaders, visited the site of Kosi river dam breach at Bhubhaul village in Darbhanga district to take stock of the situation.

During his interaction with media persons, he alleged that the Nitish Kumar government had completely failed to take concrete steps to ensure protection from embarrassment even during the emergency when locals repeatedly appealed to the relevant authorities to save them from the disaster preserve.

It is very disgusting to note that the Nitish Kumar government feels absolved of any responsibility in this critical situation after paying Rs 7,000 crore as relief to the flood-affected families, he added.

“It is all the more appalling to see that Chief Minister Kumar, apparently unconcerned with the plight of the people, is busy finalizing his party’s strategy for the Bihar assembly elections in 2025,” the CPI(ML) leader said.

The Kosi Dam was breached twice reflecting the functioning and negligence on the part of the government. He noted that the current dispensation is experiencing a sense of “self-centeredness” and is unaware of the realities on the ground. It was surprising that those demanding relief were being charged by the local administration, he claimed.

Bhattacharya demanded uninterrupted power supply in the 24-kilometer stretch from Gandaul to Bheja and adequate provision of boats in flood-affected areas. He also called for the opening of a sufficient number of community kitchens, medical camps and veterinary centers in flood-affected areas.

Fodder should also be made available for cattle, he added.
