Drone attack triggers fire at Moscow military school

According to a report by Russian Telegram channel SOTA, a fire broke out in a drone attack on Moscow’s Higher Combined Arms Command School in the early hours of October 6th. Residents reported hearing a loud explosion and sounds that resembled gunshots, although they were short-lived.

Ukraine has increasingly targeted strategic Russian assets in recent months, expanding the geographical reach of the conflict. These attacks are aimed at disrupting Russia’s military capabilities and infrastructure and potentially impacting its ability to sustain its operations in Ukraine. The use of drones for long-range strikes has become an important aspect of Ukraine’s military strategy in the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war.

Video footage shared by SOTA showed a fire near Moscow’s Kuzminki Park, which is near the military school. There are also reportedly a shooting range and a gas station in the area surrounding the school.

The Moscow Higher Combined Arms Command School is considered the oldest military educational institution in Russia, Militarnyi notes. Since 2015, it has been training command personnel with higher military-specialized training for mechanized troops and ground forces of the Russian Armed Forces.

Official Ukrainian sources did not report the attack.

This incident is part of an increased campaign of long-range attacks by Ukraine on Russian territory in recent months. These operations often involve firing dozens of drones simultaneously at strategic targets, including air bases, oil storage facilities, ammunition depots and military installations.

The implementation of these long-range drone attacks is coordinated by secret services that operate in secrecy. Dozens of drones can be launched at a single target in a single mission, with attacks occurring predominantly at night.
