Aurora in the night sky, more sunshine in North Carolina and tracking Milton

REST OF THE WEEKEND We expect morning fog and a mix of sunshine and a few heavy morning clouds before temperatures rise to the upper 70s on Sunday. A milder air mass will bring highs into the 70s across the Triad and Foothills this week, with cool 40s expected by midweek. Mountain valleys and western slopes may dip into the upper 30s Thursday and Friday morning. Tropical Storm Milton formed in the Gulf of Mexico on Saturday afternoon. Milton is expected to hit Florida’s west coast as a Category 2 or 3 hurricane midweek. The storm is expected to continue in the southwestern Gulf of Mexico until Tuesday. It could make landfall near Tampa on Florida’s west coast by Wednesday before passing over Orlando and weakening. This is troubling news for many Floridians as they recover from Helene’s landfall in Big Bend just over a week ago. Heavy rainfall, storm surges and catastrophic flooding are possible
