Whale on the beach in Lavallette

Officials with the Marine Mammal Stranding Center say a 10- to 12-foot minka whale washed up – dead – on the beach near Trenton Avenue. The report was made on Friday morning at 6:30 a.m.

With the help of the Boro of Lavallettem, the whale was removed from the beach and transported to the public works yard. An autopsy should be performed. It is not known whether this took place.

Another whale was spotted in Raritan Bay

Officials say a similar dead whale – a minke whale – was spotted a day earlier in the Lower Bay/Raritan Bay area. This whale was tracked down and eventually washed up in Queens, New York.
