The Stafford County Sheriff reports road closures following accidents involving heavy machinery

STAFFORD, Va. – Two separate accidents involving heavy machinery resulted in road closures in Stafford County over the weekend, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

The first incident occurred Friday evening when a driver with a skid steer attempted to drive under a height-restricted underpass on Harrell Road. The vehicle crashed into the underpass, forcing authorities to close the roadway for investigation and cleanup.

Earlier Saturday, Deputy General Practitioner McCaulley responded to an accident on Widewater Road where a forklift veered onto the roadway and landed on a passing car. The accident led to another road closure.

Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported in either incident.

The sheriff’s office reminded drivers to “drive carefully and obey all road signs” to prevent similar accidents.

    FREDERICK, Md. – A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a multi-vehicle accident Friday evening, according to the Frederick Police Department.

    The accident occurred on October 4, 2024 at approximately 6:50 p.m. near the intersection of Orchard Way and Apple Way. According to police, the driver of a 2024 Suzuki motorcycle lost control and crashed into several vehicles.

    The motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he remains in serious condition. No other injuries were reported in the accident.

    Authorities believe alcohol may have played a role in the incident. The results of the investigation will be presented to the Frederick County District Attorney’s Office for possible charges.

  • 10-year-old arrested after driving stolen car past Minneapolis playground

    MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A 10-year-old boy was arrested after driving a stolen vehicle past a playground full of children in north Minneapolis, authorities said Friday. No injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred Sept. 20 near Nellie Stone Johnson School.

    Minneapolis police said the boy, whose name was not released because of his age, was taken into custody Thursday on probable cause second-degree assault and booked into the Hennepin County Juvenile Detention Center.

    According to police, the child has a history of criminal activity, with at least 30 entries in police files dating back to May 2023. He has already been arrested twice for car theft and is suspected in more than 12 cases of car theft, robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon and other crimes.

    “No children on the playground were struck by the driver,” police said in a statement.

    The investigation is ongoing and no further details have been released.
