1 dead in Bellflower shooting at Saint John Bosco High School – NBC Los Angeles

A man attending his son’s youth soccer game was shot and killed in the parking lot of St. John Bosco High School, where families had gathered for Saturday morning’s event in Bellflower.

The shooting was reported about 8:30 a.m. in the 13600 block of Bellflower Boulevard during the youth football game at the high school stadium, Lt. Sheriff Hugo Reynaga. The victim, who was only a man who is the parent of a child attending the game, was shot in a car in the parking lot, Reynaga said.

He later died in a hospital.

“The victim and his passenger had just pulled into the parking lot,” Reynaga said. “The victim has a child who plays Pop Warner, I believe, and he wanted to watch his game here at school.”

The child was not in the car at the time of the shooting, he added. The other person in the car was not injured.

A video from the crime scene showed a car in a parking lot with what appeared to be several bullet holes in its windshield. Yellow caution tape surrounded the car.

Reynaga said the victim’s car was reported stolen in Lynwood. Details of the car theft were initially unknown.

According to witnesses, two people in another car pulled up behind or next to the victim’s car and opened fire. They left the scene on Bellflower Boulevard.

Details about what led to the shooting were not immediately available.

“From what we’ve heard, there was no incident in the parking lot that caused this,” Reynaga said. “We don’t know if he was followed here or if someone recognized him here.”

No arrests were reported. A detailed description of the shooter was not initially available.

School was not in session. There was no evidence of any threat to the school or the football tournament.

Authorities are trying to obtain video of the parking lot from a surveillance camera.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Unit at 323-890-5500.
