Hogwarts Legacy 2 was intended to show a new side of a despicable character

The world of Hogwarts legacylike many others Harry Potter Media, has a lot of potential. Unfortunately, it is also similar to other parts of the Harry Potter franchise in that much of that potential is wasted by, among other things, oversimplified black-and-white storytelling. If Avalanche wants software Hogwarts Legacy 2 To represent an improvement over its predecessor, it should take some steps in a more mature narrative direction.

Hogwarts Legacy 2
hasn’t been officially announced yet, but considering the first game was by far the most successful release of 2023, it’s probably just a matter of time.

Either way Hogwarts Legacy 2 Developing a better game world and story could come from strengthening some of the character descriptions. A number of characters from the first game are one-dimensional and boring, either all good, all bad, or otherwise underdeveloped. This can be seen in characters like Ranrok, whose motivations actually make a lot of sense before they are washed away by him becoming power-hungry and corrupt for inexplicable reasons, thereby erasing his previous actions and philosophy. The game’s glut of weak characters could also be why characters like Sebastian Sallow are so compelling to players: Sallow does bad things, but he also comes from a good place, which makes him complex and relatable. Other characters, such as Headmaster Phineas Nigellus Black, would receive similar treatment in the sequel.

The argument for Hogwarts Legacy 2 to humanize Headmaster Black

Principal Black should be a more interesting character

Phineas Nigellus Black is one of them many Hogwarts legacy Characters related to members of the original Harry Potter pour. Phineas, an ancestor of the rugged hero Sirius Black, adheres to the most despicable characteristics of the black household, namely a concern for blood purity and lineage. He appears in the Harry Potter Books as one of many semi-conscious portraits in which he is portrayed as snide, rude and selfish, if not outright evil. He doesn’t support Death Eaters or Voldemort, and he generally understands why characters like Harry fight for their cause, even if he wouldn’t make the same decisions himself.

But inside Hogwarts legacyhe turns out to be far less likeable: he is weak, stupid and narrow-minded, with no redeeming quality in sight. Of course he is said to be the least popular headmaster Harry Potter Canon, so this characterization makes sense on the surface, but it also makes him uninteresting and a little unbelievable. He doesn’t even care about the emerging goblin rebellion, despite his obvious disdain for non-human magical beings, which could be seen as contradictory.

The specification of Headmaster Black could be part of a larger solution

There is a tendency towards minor Harry Potter Antagonists are considered completely despicable and easily reviled (see: Peter Pettigrew and Dolores Umbridge), and Phineas Black is no exception. The players shouldn’t exactly like him, as his racism in the wizarding world and his questionable decisions, like canceling Quidditch for a year because of a single injury, are indeed absurd, but a better insight into his psyche might help Hogwarts Legacy 2 be more complex and offer players a more well-thought-out cast of characters.

Perhaps Hogwarts Legacy 2 could show more of Black’s sympathetic traits, like his reverence for his family history or why exactly he’s so protective of the wizards in the first place. To shed light on these characteristics would not mean excusing his behavior, but rather explaining them to make him more believable and multifaceted. The Harry Potter The franchise touches on the importance of individual choice and the complexity of the human mind, such as when Sirius tells Black Harry that the world is not “divided into good people and Death Eaters,” but the reality of history often contradicts this philosophyHogwarts Legacy 2 could actually reflect it, starting with Principal Black.
