Tennessee Vols show support for those affected by Hurricane Helene

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – When the Tennessee Vols take the field Saturday night, they will be wearing their hearts on their helmets.

The Vols will introduce new “Mountain Strong” decals on their helmets to honor the victims and those affected by the remnants of Hurricane Helene.

“Our thoughts are with those impacted by the historic flooding caused by Hurricane Helene, and as Tennessee Volunteers we understand the call to serve our neighbors,” the University of Tennessee said.

The university’s Jones Center for Leadership and Service will coordinate opportunities to contribute to relief efforts. During sporting events, Tennessee Athletics will use QR codes to advertise donation opportunities to the following organizations:

  • East Tennessee Foundation – The foundation was established as a fund for monetary donations to counties affected by flooding in East Tennessee
  • United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County – Provides drinking water and mobile distribution to people in rural areas, as well as medical resources
  • One SC Fund – Which distributes 99 percent of donations to nonprofit organizations providing disaster relief in South Carolina

“Public Safety regularly monitors Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) requests and provides assistance and resources as appropriate,” UT said. “Tennessee Athletics and the university will continue to seek opportunities to help the state and our region address the needs of impacted communities.”

The Vols will face the Arkansas Razorbacks at 6:30 p.m. central on ABC.
