Body camera footage shows a Woodbury police officer being stabbed during a traffic stop

State police have released disturbing body camera footage of a Woodbury police officer who was stabbed during a routine traffic stop on Thursday.

It happened near North Main Street before 1:30 p.m. Police say Officer Tim Wright attempted to stop a Jeep for displaying its license plate incorrectly.

After the vehicle was stopped, the driver, Tyler Wilmot, 31, got out and began to become verbally aggressive toward Wright.

The footage shows the interaction then became physical. According to police, Wilmot pulled out a knife and stabbed Wright in the neck.

He was taken to Waterbury Hospital and is in stable condition.

According to police, Wilmot attempted to leave the scene but was chased, tasered and arrested by Officer John Covello.

Several charges have been brought against him, including attempted murder. His bail was set at $3 million.
