Telangana DGP calls for review of new criminal laws

Hyderabad: Director General of Police (DGP) Jitender on Saturday stressed the need for continuous review mechanisms to overcome the initial challenges in implementing the new penal laws.

The DGP was the chief guest at the workshop on review of implementation of new penal laws held at RBVRR Telangana Police Academy (TGPA).

Speaking on the occasion, the DGP said that workshops like this are crucial for officials to gain a better understanding of the new legal landscape and help address both the positive aspects and the practical difficulties we encounter in the came across in the last three months.

Abhilasha Bisht, Director of TGPA, emphasized the importance of regular training workshops, particularly for leadership roles in law enforcement. “New laws can be complex and difficult to enforce without proper training. Leaders and managers must be able to effectively lead their teams through these transitions. Regular workshops enable law enforcement agencies to familiarize themselves with legal reforms and address critical areas, including operational and logistical challenges on the ground,” she added.

CID Chief Shikha Goel addressed the issues in a comprehensive presentation, addressing questions and practical concerns raised by field staff during the initial implementation phase.

The event was moderated by law schools from NALSAR and other leading legal institutions and promoted a collaborative dialogue between law enforcement agencies and legal experts. The workshop highlighted the need for senior police leaders to attend such training to ensure officers across the state are well prepared to deal with the complexities introduced by the new laws. Training workshops also provide a platform to identify systemic gaps and develop solutions to improve law enforcement efficiency and fairness.
