Africa’s handling of its natural resources is very tragic

Former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye

Former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, has expressed concern about how African countries are managing their natural resources.

According to him, the situation is “tragic”, especially the inadequate use of solar energy on the continent.

He said this during the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Christian Service University, Kumasi on Friday, October 4, 2024.

As reported by cinewsroom.com, Prof. Oquaye highlighted Africa’s missed opportunities to harness its rich natural resources for sustainable development.

He emphasized that solar energy is an important but largely neglected resource.

“Africa’s handling of the natural resources that God has given us is very tragic,” noted Prof. Oquaye.

He added: “The BBC recently reported that solar energy production in the Netherlands is higher than all of Africa combined and Africa is the home of the sun. “God will not be happy with that,” he explained.

Prof. Oquaye called on African leaders to take decisive action to harness the continent’s vast solar potential and invest in renewable energy solutions to drive long-term growth and sustainability.
