According to police, the alleged squatter is facing charges of trespassing and vandalism

A formal arraignment is scheduled for November in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.

A woman charged with trespassing and criminal damage for allegedly staying in a vacant apartment at the Hatfield Village Apartments this summer has had charges dismissed following a preliminary hearing this week.

Danielle Renee Shannon, 37, aka Danielle R Melone, of no fixed address, was charged with the offenses by Hatfield police on September 10. District Judge Ed Levine on Wednesday reserved all charges for a formal arraignment in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 13, court records show.

According to court records, Shannon is free on $2,500 unsecured bail.

Police said at 12:08 a.m. July 3, police responded to the apartments at 2058 Maple Ave. responded to a report of a squatter who refused to leave the apartment.

Police allege that an employee at an apartment complex witnessed Shannon entering and leaving the apartment, as it is believed the apartment was left unlocked while staff prepared for a future tenant.

According to police, they found blankets and pillows in the apartment, as if someone was sleeping in the apartment, as well as various food and garbage in the apartment. According to police, there was also an unflushed toilet in the bathroom with used toilet paper in it and on the floor.

Police were presented with a cleaning bill totaling $115, police said.

The apartment complex employee positively identified Shannon from a photo, police said.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled from public court records.
