Fact check: Video from Syria from 2017 showing a Hezbollah rocket attack on Israeli troops

Amid Israeli ground attacks on Lebanon, a video The alleged image of a Hezbollah fighter firing an anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) at Israeli troops went viral on social media. Chants of “Allahu Akbar” could be heard in the background as missiles hit the target and caused explosions.

India Today Fact Check revealed that it is a video from Syria from 2017.

Our probe

Reverse searching for keyframes from the viral video led us to the same clip in one post dated October 3rd. According to the Hebrew caption, the viral video shows a Syrian rebel group attacking the Syrian army years ago.

Further research led us to Media reports from 2017, with screenshots of the video in question. According to them, this video is from April 25, 2017 and was released by a Syrian rebel group called the Army of Glory.

The Army of Glory or Jaysh al-Izza is a Sunni Islamist Syrian rebel group active in northwestern Syria, primarily in the northern city of Hama and surrounding areas.

Fact check on the Hezbollah rocket attack 2

Per ReportsViolent clashes broke out in Hama, Syria, between rebels and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces, which are backed by Iranian militias. This reportedly came after it attempted to regain control of areas controlled by the rebel group.

The video showed an Army of Glory fighter attacking three groups of Assad’s forces with rockets as they advanced toward the Zlin checkpoint south of the town of Latamneh.

This was reported by several Syrian journalists at the time video On X it is indicated that at least 25 people were killed attack in Syria’s Hama.

Also the videos from these 2017 Posts Also visible in the top left corner is the rebel group’s logo, taken from the video that is now going viral.

According to news reports, the Lebanese paramilitary group Hezbollah used them Anti-tank missiles against Israel and has published videos shows it Anti-tank arsenal.

It is therefore clear that the video has nothing to do with the ongoing conflict between Israel and Lebanon.
