Carolina Panthers at Chicago Bears: Predictions, Tips, Odds

play

It may not seem like it, but it is a very important game for both teams. The Carolina Panthers are two years removed from what appears to be the worst trade in NFL history with the same team they face this weekend – the Chicago Bears. The Bears parlayed that trade into a stellar defense, a star receiver in DJ Moore and quarterback Caleb Williams.

By all measures, the Bears should win this game. However, their offense fell short of expectations. In fact, they looked downright miserable as they relied on turnovers to score a few points against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4.

The Panthers’ offense, on the other hand, has improved dramatically over the past two weeks since Andy Dalton took over as the team’s starting quarterback. If Carolina can win this game, they will prove that maybe the loss to Caleb Williams wasn’t as bad as many people made it out to be.

Here are our experts’ predictions for the Week 5 showdown.

Lorenzo Reyes: Bears 23, Panthers 16

At first glance, I would have thought this could be a chance for Carolina to cover them, but this should be a matchup that benefits the Bears. Chicago’s offensive line is one of the worst in the league. However, Carolina ranks 31st in sacks per pass attempt and cannot generate significant pressure. When Caleb Williams has time to throw, he should make plays. On the other hand, Chicago’s defense is aggressive and Carolina might have trouble keeping the ball.

Tyler Dragon: Bears 20, Panthers 17

It could have been a battle between the two most recent No. 1 picks, but Bryce Young will be watching Caleb Williams from the sidelines. Williams is going through the proverbial beginner’s difficulties. His passing rating of 72 is near the bottom of the league and he has been sacked 16 times (not all of the sacks are on the O-line). But the Bears have a solid defense and are in the top 10 in points allowed.

Jordan Mendoza: Bears 24, Panthers 17

With Carolina struggling defensively, this is the perfect chance for Caleb Williams to have an outstanding performance in a win.
