Garth Brooks breaks silence after sexual assault lawsuit: ‘Threats, lies’

Garth Brooks denies sexual assault allegations made against him in a bombshell lawsuit.

A “Jane Roe” filed a lawsuit against the country superstar on Thursday, claiming she started as a hairdresser and makeup artist for his wife Trisha Yearwood in 1999 and was then hired by Brooks for the same role in 2017.

The lawsuit accuses Brooks, 62, of sexual assault and violent rape in a Los Angeles hotel room in May 2019.

In a statement about this Newsweek Late Thursday, Brooks wrote: “For the past two months I have been plagued non-stop with threats, lies and tragic stories about what my future would be if I did not write a multi-million dollar check. “It was like a loaded gun was being held in front of me.

“Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money. In my mind, that means I’m admitting to behavior that I’m incapable of – ugly acts that no human being should ever do to another,” Brooks said.

He continued: “We filed a lawsuit against this individual almost a month ago to speak out against extortion and defamation of reputation. For the benefit of the families on both sides, we filed the lawsuit anonymously.”

“I want to play music tonight. I would like to continue our good deeds in the future. It breaks my heart that these wonderful things are now in question. I trust the system, I’m not afraid of the truth and I’m not the man they have.” portrayed me that way.

Brooks is currently in the middle of his Garth Brooks/Plus ONE residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

After news of the lawsuit broke, Brooks shared a photo from his Thursday night concert and wrote, “If there was ever a night I really needed this, TONIGHT was that night! Thank you for my life!!!!! Love.” He captioned the post in the early hours of Friday morning.

Brooks has several shows planned as part of his residency in 2024 and 2025. There have been no reports that he plans to pause his residency following news of the lawsuit.

Yearwood has not yet addressed Roe’s allegations.

Brooks and Yearwood are considered one of country music’s most popular couples. They married in 2005 and although they have no children of their own, Yearwood is the stepmother to his three daughters from a previous marriage.
