Artemas, Sebastian Maniscalco, “Shaun of the Dead”

Editor’s note: Welcome to the V3 weekend, Vanyalandis the guide to help you organize your weekend entertainment with curated selections and recommendations from our three pillars of Music, Comedy and Film/TV. It’s about what you need to know about, where you need to be and where you’re going, with us guiding you along the way.

Music: Artemas at Brighton Music Hall

The English-Cypriot singer, songwriter and producer features in his mega-viral alt-pop hit “I like the way you kiss me”. Artemas The song is famous and is about making contacts but not making a commitment. And yet here we are, still looking forward to the low-key 2024 SOTY several months after its release. Nearly 1 billion Spotify streams and more than 100 million YouTube views later (and we’re not even going to look at TikTok, where the song really blew up), “I like the way you kiss me” just hasn’t faded from rotation, and now the guy brings his basement club intensity, his relentless drive, and his breathtaking dynamic between hard and soft to Brighton Music Hall in Allston this Sunday (October 6). Pop music has been ubiquitous in the endless decade we call 2024, but this stalwart slice of hyper-catchy pop has endured all the ups, downs and straight-up yawns. Remember, if you follow the song’s advice and enter Brighton Music Hall from the back, you’ll just end up stuck in the Blanchard’s parking lot. This is some Allston allegory shit.

ARTEMAS + ASAL :: Sunday, October 6th at Brighton Music Hall, 158 Brighton Ave. in Allston, MA :: 7 p.m., all ages, $25 :: Event Information :: Advance Tickets

Comedy: Sebastian Maniscalco at TD Garden

Watch the meteoric rise of Sebastian Maniscalco was something to behold. The Illinois native has become one of the biggest names in comedy thanks to his tireless dedication and keen ability to connect with his audiences, from the underground clubs to the biggest arenas. Now he’s turning his attention to the latter with two shows at Boston’s TD Garden this weekend, and Mic’d Up brings us home: “Bringing people to an arena for a comedy show is one thing, but when there’s someone… who can do it.” It’s Sebastian Maniscalco, who did it two nights in a row without missing a step. The energetic comedy veteran brings bigger shows to the city with each visit, and this time in May it will simply be the biggest yet as he approaches a double sell-out weekend. Chances are Chicago wouldn’t allow that, but it feels like Boston is Maniscalco’s true comedy home.”

SEBASTIAN MANISCALCO :: Friday, October 4th and Saturday, October 5th at TD Garden, 100 Legends Way in Boston, MA: Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday at 6:30 p.m., $59 and up :: Advance tickets

Film/TV: Shaun of the Dead at The Brattle

It’s been 20 years now – don’t ask how – but the scene in Shaun of the Dead where Simon Pegg’s Shaun and Nick Frost’s Ed try to fend off zombies by hurling records never gets boring, especially The Stone Roses joke about the legendary Manchester band’s much-maligned second album Second coming. This weekend we have the chance to see it again on the big screen as The Brattle in Cambridge presents Edgar Wright’s cult classic for some 20th anniversary celebrations. Here’s a word from The Brattle: “We’re only the second theater in the country to be showing this brand new 35mm print of one of the best horror/comedies of all time, so come to the Winchester… er, Brattle… treat yourself.” Catch a cold.” Pint and watch this brilliant film on the big screen as it was meant to be seen.” Please note that the screening is BYOSC (“Bring Your Own Second Coming”).

“SHAUN OF THE DEAD” :: Friday, October 4th through Monday, October 7th at The Brattle, 40 Brattle St. in Cambridge, MA :: Showtimes vary :: Event page and tickets
