Netflix cancels “That ’90s Show” after two seasons

“We’re going to buy the show because good grandparents would go to great lengths to help these kids graduate from high school,” confirmed star Kurtwood Smith

Netflix has pulled the plug on comedy series That 90s show after two seasons, according to star Kurtwood Smith. The series brought Smith back as Red Forman opposite Debra Jo Rupp’s Kitty That 70s show Cast: Laura Prepon, Topher Grace, Ashton Kutcher, Wilmer Valderrama and Mila Kunis.

“I know you’ve been asking me when season 3 is coming, but I have some hard news…Netflix will not be renewing,” Smith wrote on Instagram last night. “I just want to take a minute to say THANK YOU to all the fans around the world who supported and watched the show. When I’m traveling, you’ve come up to me in random parts of the world and reached out to me on social media and have just been so wonderful. I loved every minute of bringing Grandpa Red to life for all of you.”

He continued: “I’ve said it before, but it’s worth saying again…This show had so much heart and the most wonderful cast, writers, directors, producers and crew an actor could hope to have. Thank you for letting Red and Kitty, their grandchild, all of their grandchildren’s friends and neighbors, the original cast members of That 70’s Show, and all of our wonderful guest cast members entertain you for two seasons. To steal Red Forman’s words: We won’t be fools, we’ll buy the show, because good grandparents would go to great lengths to get these kids a high school diploma.”

On trend

The first season of the series premiered on Netflix in 2023 with 10 episodes and titled “Part 1”. The second season was expanded to 16 episodes, divided into “Part 2” and “Part 3”, which ended in August. The series was canceled 15 years later That 70s showafter Eric (Grace) and Donna’s (Prepon) daughter (Callie Haverda) visits her grandparents for a summer.

Rolling StoneAlan Sepinwall wrote of the series: “Smith and Rupp were always the most reliable laughers in the original series and are still in top form years later.”
