Hit-and-run suspect leads police on 3 mph chase

BUNNELL, Fla. (TMX) – The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office in Florida announced the arrest of a hit-and-run suspect Wednesday after he led deputies and local police in “what may have been the slowest chase in FCSO history.”

According to the sheriff’s office, on Sept. 25, a victim reported that he was a passenger in a black Kia Sorrento driven by 33-year-old Kyle McNary that “would not be driving faster than 15 to 20 miles per hour.” “.

McNary stopped so the two men could swap places, but the victim reported he instead ran into the street and waved at passing cars.

The victim eventually got McNary back into the passenger seat of the car, but when he got in, McNary allegedly threw him out of the vehicle and “speeded away,” leaving him behind.

A good Samaritan stopped to help the victim and left him in his car until police arrived.

Meanwhile, McNary was reportedly involved in a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of U.S. Route 1 and Otis Stone Hunter Road with injuries. The victim reported that McNary suddenly stopped his vehicle in front of the vehicle she was in, causing the driver to crash into the rear of McNary’s vehicle.

Officers from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Bunnell Police Department “quickly” located McNary driving “slowly” on US 1.

Both agencies attempted to stop McNary, but he allegedly continued to drive away.

Officers deployed stop sticks, and despite one of his SUV’s tires deflating, he continued to drive away “at a speed of two to three miles per hour.”

After “several” U-turns across the median, the SUV McNary was driving became stuck in a ditch next to the road in heavy rain.

The officers approached the SUV and smashed the rear window with a shrapnel bullet. Finally, McNary came out with his hands up.

The sheriff’s office said McNary is known to the department. On August 29, deputies responded to a call involving McNary, who allegedly got into a physical altercation with a deputy. After he was transported to a hospital and handcuffed to a bed, McNary “threatened to fight all police officers.” When he was released and an officer tried to remove his handcuffs, McNary allegedly bit the officer.

“This scumbag has a history of threatening and assaulting deputy sheriffs, and in his most recent offense he seriously injured a person in an accident and we wish them a speedy recovery,” Sheriff Rick Staly said in a statement. “But for McNary, it looks like he needs a longer stay at the Green Roof Inn. This guy needs to be locked up so he doesn’t hurt or kill anyone with his actions.”

McNary was arrested for simple assault, failure to stop/stop during an accident involving serious bodily injury, fleeing and eluding law enforcement, obstructing without violence, assault on a police officer, resisting a police officer with force – serious bodily injury, assault on a police officer and threatening to Death or serious bodily harm. He was also arrested by Bunnell police for domestic violence.

He was taken to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Center where he is being held without bail.
