San Jose Councilman Omar Torres served warrant for child sexual misconduct: report

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) — According to our partners at Bay Area News Group, San Jose City Council member Omar Torres is the target of a child sexual misconduct investigation.

The Mercury News reports that Torres was arrested early Thursday and served with a search warrant related to a criminal investigation involving sexually explicit material and an alleged relationship with a minor.

San Jose police only confirmed that an investigation was underway into “a member” of the City Council, but did not say whether it was Torres or reveal details about the case.

They called the investigation “active” and “ongoing.”

Torres was elected to the City Council in 2022 as the first openly gay Latino member.

ABC7 News attempted to reach Torres but we have not received a response.

We asked San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan about the investigation.

He declined to comment on the case.
