Lakhimpur Kheri: Farmers demand justice: Train blockade in Lakhimpur Kheri marks tragic anniversary | Chandigarh News

Bathinda: Commemorating the third death anniversary of four farmers and a journalist killed in Tikunia village in Uttar Pradesh Lakhimpur Kheri district, activists of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha-Non Political (SKM-NP) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) interrupted rail traffic for almost two hours on Thursday.
The SKM-NP and the KMM had called for the train service to be interrupted from 12.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. in order, among other things, to demand justice for the bereaved. Four farmers were allegedly mowed down by then Union Home Minister Ajay Mishra’s convoy during a black flag protest in Tikunia three years ago, on October 3, 2021. Besides the four farmers, a journalist and two BJP activists were also killed along with the driver Union minister’s son killed.
The farmers’ forum activists turned up at railway tracks at various places in Punjab and Haryana. The farmers were also protesting against other unmet demands, said SKM-NP leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal and KMM leader Sarvan Singh Pandher.
