Middle school students at Lincoln Township’s AE Phillips Laboratory School earned high performance scores on this year’s Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (LEAP) test.

Under the direction of Dr. Jenny Blalock, some of the highlights of the LEAP test results were:

-100% of AEP algebra students (8th grade)Th grade for high school credits) with Mastery or Advanced

-100% of AEP 6Th7Th and 8Th Elementary school students achieved a grade of “Master” or “Advanced” in mathematics

-100% of AEP 7Th Elementary students achieved a master’s or advanced degree in science

-100% of AEP 8Th Elementary school students achieved “Master” or “Advanced” degrees in ELA.

“We owe this success to the hard work of our faculty, staff and students,” Blalock said. “Teachers and administrators are constantly thinking about and working together to improve our practice. We also remember the practices we believe in that are based on research and ensure they continue in our classrooms. regardless of what changes will occur in education. We strive for academic excellence, but the safety, well-being and satisfaction of our students, faculty and staff are our priority.”

Another type of measured data is called a Proficiency Score for those students who achieve Mastery or Advanced degrees in the LEAP. The AEP Bullpups placed in the top 10 in the state in the following classes and subjects:

-6Th Grade ELA (Top 10)

-6Th Class Mathematics (#1 nationwide)

-6Th Science class (#2 nationally)

-7Th Grade ELA (Top 5)

-7Th Class Mathematics (#1 nationwide)

-7Th Science class (No. 1 in the country)

-8Th Grade ELA (bound for 1st nationwide)

-8Th Class mathematics (noted for 1st grade)st nationwide)

-8Th Science Class (Top 5)

Blalock noted that most schools with higher rankings are for advanced degree programs or magnet schools.

Lauren Pipes, who teaches 6Th and 7Th Class Mathematics said: “Our students work very hard every day to become the best mathematicians they can be.” We believe that ongoing daily review is the key to complete understanding. By the end of the year they could all be teaching the class…which is a testament to their understanding.”

Currently 8Th Elementary student and student council president Nolan Hogan agreed with Pipes’ assessment.

“With the wonderful staff and teachers, it’s no wonder we’ve accomplished so many great things,” Hogan said.

Blalock said she would also like to recognize and thank Middle School Assistant Principal Lori Kelly.

“(She) doesn’t want recognition or recognition, but this is a testament to her leadership skills,” Blalock said.

The LEAP test reflects the curriculum taught each year and gives each student a “grade” to assess their readiness for the next level of study. It also provides teachers with information about where a student may need additional help. After the tests are graded and released in July, a student receives a grade of Advanced, Mastery, Basic, Approaching Basic, or Unsatisfactory in each section. In grades below high school, students typically take four sections: English Language Arts (ELA), math, science, and social studies. This year, however, they only took three sections because the social studies was a field test and no data was published.
