Eutaw Police Night Out Strengthens Community Relations: “Citizens Feel Safer”

EUTAW, Ala. (WBRC) – The Eutaw Police Night Out offered residents the opportunity to meet first responders, ask questions and learn more about how they help in your community.

The Eutaw Police Night Out was held Thursday at the RH Young Community Center.

Eutaw leaders say they recognize that crime can happen anywhere, at any time, and they believe a night like this highlights the importance of connecting police with the community.

“It makes citizens feel safer, and it makes us feel a lot safer than just dealing with the public, because we know who we can rely on, because a lot of citizens don’t want to have to deal with the police.” That’s why we organize this event to bridge the gap between the community and the police. Like I told you before, just let them know we are here for you,” said Eutaw Police Chief Tommy Smith.

“It is very effective because our citizens have the opportunity to interact with our police officers. They know the police will be there, and the district police will be there. We have other local police officers that will be there and state troopers will be there,” said Eutaw Mayor LaTasha Johnson.

Chief Tommy Smith said Eutaw has been organizing the police night for at least five years and believes it has more than paid off in terms of better community relations.
