According to The Independent, the identities of the 13-year-old and her sister have not been publicly revealed. Additionally, the teen was reportedly charged with first-degree murder, aggravated murder and child abuse.

According to the outlet, a prosecutor named Kym Worthy stated that the 13-year-old will not be tried as an adult. However, the teenager will “remain in the juvenile justice system.”

“Given her young age, the state would have seven years to diagnose, treat and rehabilitate her before her mandatory discharge at age 21,” Worthy reportedly stated. “Hopefully then she wouldn’t be a danger to others. Although this is a difficult decision given these facts, it is the right decision in this case.”

Still, Worthy reportedly reiterated that “the facts in this case are terrible.”

“It is beyond disturbing that the person suspected of stabbing her seven-year-old sister is thirteen years old,” she said.

AP News reports the teen remains in custody following a preliminary hearing on Oct. 1.

According to the outlet, the incident occurred on Saturday, September 28, at the girls’ home in Taylor. The teenager was reportedly babysitting her younger sister when an argument broke out over a note left in the bathroom.

The note was reportedly about “flushing the toilet.” A fight then broke out between the two, with the 13-year-old allegedly stabbing her sister in the “abdomen, head and neck.”

Afterward, the teen reportedly called 911 and authorities found the child with ten stab wounds.

Eventually, the seven-year-old was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

“She was very calm and just showed no emotion,” Detective Zachary Digiacomo reportedly said of the 13-year-old.

Meanwhile, a neighbor named Julie Pagoto shared a statement about the younger sister.

“Just last night I spoke to her and now she’s gone… She used to ride her bike up and down the street every day, walk up and down the street, stop and talk to neighbors. She was just the sweetest little girl,” Pagoto told CBS News.

As The Shade Room previously reported, a similar incident involving underage relatives occurred in Kentucky in July. In addition, a then 12-year-old girl was accused of fatally suffocating her 8-year-old cousin.

At the time, authorities were investigating the motive behind the incident. However, the victim’s mother said the girls had argued over an iPhone before the fatal incident.

“I consider this to be one of the most disturbing acts of violence committed by an adult or juvenile that my office has prosecuted,” District Attorney Frederick H. Agee reportedly claimed in a statement at the time.
