1 dead after car overturns on highway in Richland County

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) – A woman died in a car accident Wednesday evening, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP).

The accident occurred around 9:20 p.m. on I-77 near mile marker 15, which is near the Percival Road exit.

SCHP said a 2005 Ford Mustang was traveling south on the highway, went off the right side of the road and overturned. There were two people in the car, a driver and a passenger.

According to police, the passenger died in the incident. She was later identified by Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford as 20-year-old Shayna Stukes of Gaston.

There is currently no information available about the driver’s condition.

SCHP and the Richland County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the crash.
